I discovered the power of self care after I completely burned out and developed a chronic illness in 2016.
Since then, I have always tried to maintain a good self care routine, invest time and energy into personal development, and set big goals, then manifest them into reality! (A bit woo, I know... but it works :)
I was using alcohol as a crutch to make me more sociable, had non-existent boundaries, never had a moment to myself, and looking back now, I was ignoring signs from my body that I needed to slow down.
Then everything hit the fan 🤦♀️ I ended up in hospital with a virus that left me with post-viral chronic disease and a condition called POTS.
It took me months to build myself back up to any sense of normality. For a while, I could hardly even get out of bed.
This experience really knocked me, and I needed to recover emotionally as well as physically. I started exercising for the first time ever, improved my diet, gave up alcohol completely (which I didn't find easy at all), and dived head first into personal development and healing.
I overhauled my whole life. And I've never looked back.
Self care is at the very centre of health and happiness. If your own needs are not met, you simply cannot be the best version of yourself for everyone else.
BUT, depsite knowing this, I frequently fall off the self care bandwagon when life gets in the way...
and I figured, I can't be the only one!
